Tris(chloropropyl) phosphate (TCPP) is a characteristic and widely used organophosphorus flame retardant. TCPP comprised of four isomers the most abundant tris(1-chloro-2-propyl) phosphate. can be released into environment, with potential impacts on living organisms humans due to its extensive industrial use. Aiming assess risks human health toxic genotoxic effects—using from different trophic levels, i.e., bacteria, green microalgae, cells—were investigated. exposure at nominal concentrations 10, 20, 30 40 μg mL−1 was studied identify risk inducing effects in cultured lymphocytes. Treatment induced marginally significant micronuclei (MN) frequencies as well cytotoxic effects. Freshwater microalgae species treated (0.5, 1, 20 50 L−1) showed growth rates over time. All tested were adversely affected after during first 24 h. However, differences among species’ sensitivities observed. In case freshwater species, sensitive found Chlorococcum sp. The marine algal Dunaliella tertiolecta Tisochrysis lutea significantly TCPP. Aliivibrio fischeri that observed classify this retardant “harmful” compound.
