Abstract Heavy metal cadmium (Cd) naturally occurs in soil and is a hazardous trace contaminant for humans, animals, plants. The main sources of Cd pollution include overuse phosphatic fertilizers, manure, sewage sludge, aerial deposition. That’s why an experiment was conducted to analyze the effect toxicity Capsicum annuum L. by selecting its seven varieties: Hybrid, Desi, Sathra, G-916, BR-763, BG-912, F1-9226. Cadmium spiked with four levels, i.e., (0, 3, 4, 5 mg kg − 1 soil) week homogeneous dispersion heavy metal. Chili seeds were sown compost-filled loamy soil, 25-day-old seedlings transplanted into Cd-spiked soil. increasing concentration decreased chili growth characteristics, total soluble sugars, proteins, amino acids. On other hand, activities antioxidant enzymes increased almost all varieties. Treatment Cd/kg application caused 197.39%, -138.78%, -60.77%, -17.84%, -16.34%, -11.82% 10.37% decrease carotenoids level V2 (Desi) followed V4 (G-916), V1 (Hy7brid), V7 (F1-9226), V6 (BG-912), V5 (BR-763) V3 (Sathra) as compared their controls. maximum flavonoids among varieties (BR-763), (Hybrid). Flavonoids content 37.63% (Sathra), -34.78% (Hybrid), -33.85% -31.96% -31.44% (Desi), -30.58% -22.88% (BG-912) control at stress. POD, SOD, CAT 31.81%, -25.98%, -16.39% variety (F1-9226) stress control. At same time, APX 82.91%, -80.16%, -65.19%, -40.31%, -30.14%, -10.34% 6.45% treatment highest found except Desi G-916. G-916 susceptible, while intermediate attributes against Our results suggest that are tolerant can be grown on large scale mitigate naturally.

Heavy metal (HM) contamination poses a serious threat to safe crop production and human health, different maize inbred lines respond differently cadmium (Cd) stress. However, the morphological physiological characteristics of seedlings are not clear under Cd In this study, we analyzed agronomic traits biochemical indices stress in seedling stage using Kui3, CML118, Mo17, B73, B77 as materials. These five maizes were treated with concentrations (0, 1, 3, 5, 7 mg L−1, respectively) applied determined on day 15. The aboveground belowground biomass showed decreasing trend Leaf relative water content SPAD values also decreased, but overall decrease was small, differences significant. Surprisingly, affected activities superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT), leading enhanced mem-brane lipid peroxidation. varied greatly between varieties stress, all them had lower above ground than below ground, highest lowest transfer coefficients Mo17 (0.33–0.83) B73 (0.06–0.44), respectively. Kui3 greatest difference soluble protein which de-creasing trend, sugar significantly decreased general compared that CK. higher CK treatment, proline an increasing Overall, there significant genotypic response toxicity seedlings, and, general, study helps us understand mechanism It provides theoretical basis for se-lection breeding varieties, food safety.

Tobacco plants (Nicotiana tabacum L.) exhibit considerable potential for phytoremediation of soil cadmium (Cd) pollutants, owing to their substantial biomass and efficient metal accumulation capabilities. The reduction Cd in tobacco holds promise minimizing intake individuals exposed cigar smoking. NRAMP transporters are pivotal the processes resistance plants; however, limited research has explored functions NRAMPs plants. In this investigation, we focused on NtNRAMP6c, one three homologs NRAMP6 tobacco. We observed a robust induction NtNRAMP6c expression response both toxicity iron (Fe) deficiency, with highest levels detected roots. Subsequent subcellular localization heterologous analyses disclosed that as plasma membrane-localized transporter. Moreover, its overexpression significantly heightened sensitivity yeast cells toxicity. Through CRISPR-Cas9-mediated knockout achieved an enhancement Comparative transcriptomic analysis unveiled alterations transcriptional profiles genes associated ion transport, photosynthesis, macromolecule catabolism upon knockout. Furthermore, our study employed plant metabolomics rhizosphere metagenomics demonstrate led changes phytohormone homeostasis, well shifts composition abundance microbial communities. These findings bear significant biological implications utilization strategies targeting pollutants contaminated soils, concurrently, mitigating production destined consumption.

Melatonin (MT) participates in plants' responses response to cadmium (Cd) tolerance, although its work model remains elusive. Here, the function of MT adjusting Cd accumulation Gossypium hirsutum (CCRI12) was investigated. In this research we observed that exogenous 50 μM significantly reduced under 100 μМ stress for 7 days treatment cotton seedlings. markedly induced ROS (H2O2, O2-) and elevated expression transporters uptake translocation. After application MDA high induction antioxidant defense system; genes encoding superoxide dismutase (GhSOD), catalase (GhCAT), peroxidase (GhPOD), ascorbate (GhAPX), glutathione S-transferase (GhGST) were upregulated accompanied by their level content. Furthermore, down-regulated include Natural Resistance-Associated Macrophage Protein 1 (GhNRAMP3), Zinc/Iron-regulated transporter-like protein (GhZIP1/4/6), Heavy Metal ATPase gene (GhHMA2), ATP-binding Cassette sub family C (GhABCC3/2). Cadmium (Cd) removal from soil to reduce Cd accumulation in plants is essential for agroecology, food safety, and human health. enters affects plant growth development. Hydrogels can easily combine with Cd, thereby altering its bioavailability soil. However, few studies have evaluated the effects of hydrogel on complex phytotoxicity caused by uptake microbial community structure. Herein, a new poly (acrylic acid)-grafted starch potassium humate composite (S/K/AA) was added evaluate impact tobacco microenvironment. The results indicate that addition S/K/AA significantly improve biomass, chlorophyll (Chl) content, photosynthetic capacity during stress conditions, decrease concentration, probably affecting absorption through expression transporters (e.g., NRAMP5, NRAMP3, IRT1). Moreover, application not only reduced reactive oxygen species (ROS), but also antioxidant activities peroxidase (POD), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), suggesting alleviates toxicity via non-antioxidant pathway. Notably, we further analyzed effectiveness communities Cd-contaminated found it increased Cd-tolerant (Arthrobacter, Massilia, Streptomyces), enhancing remediation ability helping alleviate toxicity. Overall, our study provides primary insights into how plants.
