Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) are among the most universally engineered nanomaterials and widely used in world. In order to predict environmental impact interaction between these NPs coastal organisms, amphipod Talitrus saltator was exposed TiO2 C1 = 151.5 µg.L−1 C2 303 µg.L−1. Catalase activity increased significantly reaches a maximum of about 0.8 ± 0.02 µMol/min/mg proteins after exposure showing possible oxidative mechanisms. addition, acetylcholinesterase reduced (p < 0.05) highest concentration, indicating neurotransmission disturbance treated with NPs. Locomotor behaviour for untreated specimens studied under constant darkness (DD). Results revealed existence ultradian circadian components. locomotor patterns were generally bimodal became multimodal ones. We noted also slippage peak from middle subjective night control until day exposure. Furthermore, important stability observed individuals who more active than Overall, this laboratory study provides preliminary toxicity data

With the global implementation of wastewater reuse, accurately assessing soil ecological risk chiral pollutants from necessitates a comprehensive understanding their enantioselective toxicity to animals. Ibuprofen (IBU) is most prevalent pharmaceutical in municipal wastewater. However, its toward animals and underlying mechanism remain largely unknown. In this study, IBU enantiomers, S-IBU R-IBU, earthworms was evaluated at environmentally relevant concentrations (10 100 μg/L), simulating reuse for irrigation. The results demonstrated that adversely affects growth, reproduction, regeneration, defense systems, metabolic processes earthworms, with exhibiting stronger toxic effects than R-IBU. bioavailability assessment revealed more readily absorbed by converted enantiomer within This consistent molecular docking showing had affinities functional proteins associated xenobiotic transport transformation. findings study highlight poses higher R-IBU organisms under scenarios chirality chemical deserves attention when implementing reuse. addition, our underscores differences bioactivity may account pollutants.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a class of persistent organic pollutants that pose growing threat to environmental human health. Soil acts as long-term reservoir for PFAS, potentially impacting soil biodiversity ecosystem function. Earthworms, keystone species in ecosystems, particularly vulnerable PFAS exposure. In this study, we investigated the sublethal effects three short-chain (C4-C6) next-generation perfluoropropylene oxide acids (PFPOAs) on earthworm Eisenia fetida, using legacy perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acid (PFCA), perfluorooctanoic (PFOA), reference. We assessed suite biochemical endpoints, including markers oxidative stress (catalase superoxide dismutase activity), immunity (phenol oxidase neurotoxicity (acetylcholinesterase behavioural endpoints (escape test). Results indicate all tested even at sub-micromolar concentrations, elicited significant across multiple physiological domains. Interestingly, HFPO-DA demonstrated most substantial impact tested, indicating broad neurotoxic effects. Our findings underscore potential risks both emerging emphasising need further research understand consequences contamination.

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of separate provision green and oregano tea extracts on biomarkers redox state health condition in pre-weaned Jersey calves from birth 60 days life. Two experiments following complete randomized design with measures repeated time were carried out using 38 (17 21 1 2, respectively). Calves distributed according date into one three groups: control (CON) - no addition extracts; extract (OE) 70 mg extract/kg body weight (BW) (GT) 35 BW. Eight evaluated 1, 30, after birth, variables measured day used as covariates. Body temperature occurrence diarrhea every two days. Regarding main results, supply reduced concentration oxidizing biomarkers, such DCFP (oxidation dichlorofluorescein plasma) carbonyl, increased activity antioxidant enzymes, GPx catalase. Green only tended improve catalase activity. remained healthy (no fever a few diarrhea), plant did not their condition. The diet has positive effect status calves.
