While Alzheimer's disease (AD) diagnosis, management, and care have become priorities for healthcare providers researcher's worldwide due to rapid population aging, epidemiologic surveillance efforts are currently limited by costly, invasive diagnostic procedures, particularly in low middle income countries (LMIC). In recent years, wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) has emerged as a promising tool public health assessment through detection quantification of specific biomarkers wastewater, but applications non-infectious diseases such AD remain limited. This early review seeks summarize AD-related urine other peripheral biofluids discuss their potential integration WBE platforms guide the first prospective field. Promising results been reported clinical settings, indicating amyloid β, tau, neural thread protein, long non-coding RNAs, oxidative stress markers dysregulated metabolites questions regarding concentration stability wastewater correlation between levels sewage circulation must be addressed future studies before comprehensive systems can developed.

Monitoring urinary markers of dietary, disease, and stress by wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) is a promising tool to better understand population health wellbeing. However, common biomarkers are subject degradation in sewer systems their fates have be assessed before they can used WBE. This study investigated the stability 31 (12 food biomarkers, 8 vitamins, 9 oxidative 1 histamine biomarker) laboratory sediment reactor evaluated suitability for WBE, considering detectability real wastewater in-sewer stability. These showed various transformation patterns, among which 16 compounds had half-lives <2 h while other 15 presented moderate high (2 >500 h). Thirteen potential WBE because consistently measurable concentrations untreated sufficient Eighteen were unsuitable due rapid and/or undetectable concentration levels using previous methods. Transformation rates these generally weak relationships with molecular properties but relatively higher correlations biological activities sewers. Overall, this determined health-related through experiments, providing new findings assessment.

Steroid hormones (SHs) have received widespread attention in recent years. However, current studies of SHs primarily focused on estrogenic substances, with androgen-related being quite limited. We optimized the solid-phase extraction (SPE) pretreatment method, as well enzymolysis conditions five androgens (androstenedione, boldenone, methandienone, nandrolone, and testosterone), to simultaneously determine their concentrations effluent from wastewater treatment plants surface water samples. Then we evaluated ecological risks Pearl River basin Guangzhou (PR China) using risk quotient method. The recovery rates targets were 90% 99% samples when digested β-glucosidase for 90 min before extraction, extracted a Poly-Sery HLB column, washed 15% methanol aqueous solution 2% ammonia. established instrument's limit detection was between 0.02 0.39 μg/L, quantification 0.05 1.29 μg/L.
