Management aquifer recharge (MAR) technology is widely applied to solve seawater intrusion caused by groundwater overexploitation in coastal areas. However, MAR creates an important pathway for microplastics (particle size< 5 mm) enter groundwater. To explore the clogging potential of media, a series laboratory-scale column experiments were conducted this study. The hydraulic conductivity porous media and deposition amount investigated under different experimental conditions. In our study, most intercepted sand column’s surface layer. difference particle size greatly influence development. decreased as microplastic decreased. Microplastics have emerged as significant and concerning pollutants within soil ecosystems. Among the biota, entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) are lethal parasites of arthropods, considered among most effective biological agents against pests. Infective juveniles (IJs) EPNs, they navigate matrix scavenging for arthropod hosts to infect, could potentially encounter microplastics. Howver, impact microplastics on EPNs has not been fully elucidated yet. We addressed this gap by subjecting Steinernema feltiae polystyrene (PS-MPs) with various sizes, concentrations, exposure durations. After confirming PS-MP ingestion S. using fluorescent dyes, we found that PS-MPs reduced survival, reproduction, pathogenicity tested effects intensifying smaller (0.1-1 μm) at higher concentrations (10

Sustainable reuse of treated wastewater sludge or biosolids in agricultural production requires comprehensive understanding their risks and benefits. Microbes are central mediators many biosolids-associated benefits, however responses to remains minimal. Application soils amounts a coalescence two distinct microbial communities adapted vastly different matrices. High-throughput DNA RNA sequencing (HTS) approaches required accurately describe the compositional functional outcomes this process as they currently provide highest possible resolution deal with complex community-scale phenomena. Furthermore, linkage HTS data physicochemical can reveal biotic abiotic drivers coalescence, impacts biosolids-borne contaminants collective downstream implications for soil plant health. Here we review current body literature examining biosolids-amended using total community RNA. We critical synthesis composition responses, physical, chemical biological these influence three major anthropogenic concern; antimicrobials antimicrobial resistance genes, plastics, per- polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Finally, identify methodological limitations outstanding research questions precluding holistic envision future whereby sequence-based ecology is integrated soil, plant, contaminant preserve health, support productivity, remediate contaminants.
