The study region was the Tuojiang River, a tributary of upper Yangtze River. Sediment phosphorus (P) release remains unclear in River Southwest China. sediments were collected from upper, middle, and lower reaches this study. potential sediment P (percentage saturation zero equilibrium concentration, EPCsat) determined by isotherm experiments. influential factors mechanisms on explored. mainly acted as source to P. Phosphorus bound Fe oxides (Fe-P), organic matter (OM), water temperature (T), content originally adsorbed (Q0) most EPCsat. pH, T, or disturbance had greatest effect exchangeable (Ex-P), (Org-P), Fe-P. FeCl3 has an inhibitory release. Fe-P participates process. kinetics well fitted pseudo-second-order model. These results obtained could help understanding pollution status sediment, improve our knowledge provide significant information for further management sediment.
