Liquid crystal monomers (LCMs) exemplify a group of chemicals prevalent in indoor environments. However, current frameworks for assessing the environmental persistence predominantly focus on outdoor environments, often overlooking Here, we model and compare LCMs across multimedia Our findings reveal that, when assessed an context, <10% investigated exhibit overall comparable to those persistent organic pollutants regulated by Stockholm Convention, one-third two-thirds meet Convention's medium-specific half-life thresholds persistence. found notable disparity between persistence: Approximately 90% demonstrate substantially prolonged indoors, 10 times longer average, up ∼150 some cases, compared outdoors. This long is mainly attributed low volatility their high affinity surface compartments. work highlights environment's role as both continuous source human exposure potential reservoir long-term regional contamination. Therefore, tailored, fit-for-purpose assessment "indoor persistence", focusing carries profound implications ecological health.

Liquid crystal monomers (LCMs) comprise a class of emerging organic pollutants that have garnered considerable attention because their dioxin-like toxicity and presence in various environments. However, limited information about the identities, occurrence, distribution LCMs has highlighted an urgent need for high-throughput sensitive analytical method. In this study, we developed validated rapid, simple, method involves minimal solvent consumption. The was applied simultaneous detection identification 78 air particulate samples using gas chromatography coupled with triple quadrupole mass spectrometry. results showed high degrees linearity correlation coefficients greater than 0.995 concentration range 5.0-500 ng/mL. instrumental limits ranged from 0.7 to 5.3 pg, 0.0004 0.009 pg/m3. recoveries most targeted LCM standards spiked were between 69% 150%, relative standard deviations six replicates less 15% at three levels spiking (10, 50, 200 ng/mL). analyze real Beijing, China. Accordingly, described herein is suitable quantifying atmospheric samples. As such, it will be valuable investigating environmental behaviors, risk assessments.
