Microplastics (MPs) have been continuously accumulating in soil, posing significant environmental concerns due to their potential toxicity and role as pollutant vectors. Effective monitoring of MPs soils requires appropriate methods for extraction, identification quantification. This comparative review systematically examined various used MP analysis from solid matrix environments, highlighting the advantages disadvantages each technique. Soils are heterogeneous complex matrices, which can interact differently with MPs, rendering separation a challenge. Key challenges include interactions between soil organic matter detection limitations smaller size interfere accurate extraction. Specialized techniques devices required precise Digestion be effective removing matter, although harsh digestion degrade MPs. To improve liability analysis, it is critical minimize steps that may reduce accuracy such filtration, inappropriate sample size. Conversely, adjusting or combining enhance precision analysis. offers forward-looking perspective by advocating extraction approaches, thus providing more accurate, reproducible holistic framework soils. These insights anticipated guide future research promote standardized protocols efforts.

Accurate quantification of microplastics (MPs) in soils is a significant challenge due to the complex nature organo-mineral matrix. Fine mineral particles and organic matter often interfere with efficiency extraction, identification MPs from soils. Here, an optimized MP extraction method proposed, using total carbon analyser-solid sample combustion unit (TOC-SSM) analysis. The approach entails field survey, digestion by Piranha solution, density separation, quantification. This achieves high recovery rate 97.39 ± 14.25 (SE) % for sized between 300 600 µm, 94.80 13.48 less than µm spiked soil as samples. optimised then applied strawberry farm that use plastic mulch films quantify contamination levels. Our results indicate concentrations 12.24 3.65 mg kg-1 (for 300-2000 size) 2.62 0.66 smaller µm). With improved simplicity ability provide actual weight plastics MPs, this work offers potential assessing low-density northeastern Australian agricultural dominant contamination, specifically polyethylene (PE).

Microplastic (MP) are an emerging environmental pollutant, which has toxic effects on organisms, and it received extensive attention currently. Studying the transcriptomic metabolic responses of mice to nanoplastic-contaminated water is critical for understanding molecular-level toxicity nanoplastics (NPs), but there few studies this topic. To analyze different concentrations polystyrene (PS) at transcriptome metabolism spleens study molecular toxicity. Here, testing histopathology spleen female was performed after drinking containing 0.1 μm PS-NPs (1 mg/mL 50 mg/mL) 49 days, respectively. The tissue samples were subjected metabolome sequencing. Four differentially expressed genes randomly chosen qRT-PCR confirm correctness Common Kyoto encyclopedia genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis showed that a large number differential metabolites mainly focused immune, inflammation, neurodegenerative disease, cardiovascular nervous, etc. in organism systems module; lipid, amino acid, taurine hypotaurine metabolisms, signaling translation, molecules interaction, neuroactive ligand-receptor information processing. results levels confirmed immune system affected contaminated with nanoplastics.

Organic mulching is a promising technique for sustainable weed control and soil management, as it enhances crop growth, quality, water retention, erosion control. This research evaluated the effects of organic mulches—wheat straw, wood chips, spray cellulose pulp, compost, cover mixture—on physical–mechanical properties garden transitioning to natural farming. The controlled received no mulch. was fertilized with mature bovine manure prior three-year rotation tomato, lettuce, savoy cabbage. Mulching occurred after second harrowing before transplanting. Soil analyses were conducted assess changes three years. carbon levels increased significantly in soils treated crops, or chipped (6.81, 3.17, 2.07%, respectively) compared other treatments (1.24% plot). Different kinds mulch had significant impact on soil’s parameters. Compost, control, decreased bulk density (from 1.22 0.89 Mg m−3), infiltration rate 8.53 21.07 L m−2), reduced compressive deformation 37.08 18.23%). composition materials, specifically their nitrogen concentrations, C/N ratio, moisture content, plays role influencing properties.
