Understanding the relationship between urbanization and vegetation is essential for sustainable urban development. Over last few decades, China has experienced rapid dramatic along with impressive land transformations. However, dynamic expansion cover lacks enough understanding. We proposed an urbanization-vegetation coordination index (UVCI) by combining physical boundaries of cities at 10-year intervals 250 m index, measured conflict or relationships 338 in from 1990 to 2018. The results show that a process rapid, large-scale, but uneven over past 30 years, areas expanding approximately 556 %. Urbanization made China's less green, yet changes vary newly developed older areas. There substantial tendency degradation urbanized areas, whereas generally improved non-urban been showing noticeable greening trend after 2010, NDVI maintaining annual growth rate 0.89 becoming increasingly coordinated. proportion decreased 93 % 1990–2000 15 2010–2018. spatial heterogeneity UVCI apparent, northern Chinese having achieved largely coordinated urban-vegetation relationship, while most southern still face challenges. methodology this study can be used as reference subsequent research, findings help shape government policies will support green development China.

Urbanization within the urban agglomeration in middle reaches of Yangtze River (UAMRYR) faces increasing tension between growth, human welfare, and ecological preservation. This study investigates interplay new-type urbanization (NTU) well-being performance (EWP) as potential mitigation approaches. Using entropy weight topsis super-efficiency SBM models, we quantify NTU EWP UAMRYR. Additionally, coupling coordination degree model (CCDM) elucidates intricate dynamics these systems. Our findings indicate that is underdeveloped, particularly economically socially. The underwent volatile periods before rapid expansion. majority CCD exhibited low coordination, oscillating 0.4 0.5. Spatial analysis showed marked polarization UAMRYR a "high-low-moderate" core-periphery distribution. Guided by insights, suggest policies to enhance EWP. These strategies aim align sustainable growth with economic development, balanced preservation, welfare enhancement.
