It is a challenging task to design piezoelectric photocatalyst with excellent performance under mechanical agitation instead of ultrasonic irradiation. Integrating vacancy defects into heterojunction seems be an effective strategy for synergistically increasing its piezo-photocatalytic performance. For this goal, two-step hydrothermal method was adopted architect type-I oxygen-vacancy-rich BaTiO3/BiOBr surge the degradation Rhodamine B (RhB) combined action simulated sunlight irradiation and agitation. Various instrumental techniques demonstrated formation high crystallinity. The existence surface oxygen vacancies confirmed by XPS EPR tests. PFM results manifested that had properties, response value 30.31 pm V–1. Comparative experiments indicated RhB efficiency piezo-photocatalysis over largely exceeded total sum those piezocatalysis photocatalysis. h+, ·O2–, 1O2 were dominant reactive species degradation. improved separation photogenerated charges verified electrochemical measurements. DFT calculations polarization BaTiO3 could affect electronic band structure BiOBr. This work will provide comprehensive insights mechanism at microcosmic level help develop new-styled photocatalysts.
