Ample research has shown that light influences our emotions, cognition, and sleep quality. However, little work examined whether different exposure-related behaviors, such as daytime exposure to electric nighttime usage of gadgets, especially before sleep, influence quality cognition. For field research of non-visual effects light, accurate measurement personal light exposure is required. A consensus framework for light-dosimetry could improve and ensure comparability between studies. Here, we present a review methodologies used in studies published to date, focussing on considerations regarding the preparation data. Overall, large variability studies’ observed, highlighting need framework. We propose methodological that should be included such can guide future Furthermore, highlight important points addressed compatibility different dosimetry Taken together, this effort underlines importance systematic approach order harness all power integrative lighting real life.

Background Light exposure is an important driver and modulator of human physiology, behavior overall health, including the biological clock, sleep-wake cycles, mood alertness. can also be used as a directed intervention, e.g., in form light therapy seasonal affective disorder (SAD), jetlag prevention treatment, or to treat circadian disorders. Recently, system quantities units related physiological effects was standardized by International Commission on Illumination (CIE S 026/E:2018). At same time, biometric monitoring technologies (BioMeTs) capture personalized were developed. However, because there are currently no standard approaches evaluate digital dosimeters, need provide firm framework for characterization, calibration, reporting these sensors urgent. Objective This article provides such applying principles verification, analytic validation clinical (V3) state-of-the-art approach tools standards medicine dosimetry. Results describes opportunities use dosimeters basic research, exposure, measuring adherence both non-clinical populations light-based interventions trials.
