Moving to a circular economy (CE) is crucial for achieving sustainability. However, many industries face challenges make the transition. Industries function as complex systems, encompassing multiple business ecosystems (BEs) influenced by myriad of market forces. Due absence single point control, evolution and their BEs can follow various paths. If transitioning CE desired outcome, understanding guidelines restrictions - or 'rules' that facilitate emergence within essential. This research therefore investigates transition in chemicals manufacturing industry through lens BEs, system theory, orchestration theory. A two-stage instrumental case study was conducted, beginning with focus group discussions involving broad spectrum stakeholders chemical industry, followed analysis specific laundry detergent BE. Our findings deepen CE, especially unveiling seven rules govern These emphasise importance motivations, challenges, cross-sector collaborations, BE orchestration. Furthermore, our highlights consumers' readiness value propositions pressing need both private governmental investment scale up. Additionally, shed light on potential synergies between highly carbon-intensive realm CE. Despite complexity managing such intricate relationships, it argued fair distribution gains burdens sustain long run, which ultimately contributes reducing carbon emissions mitigating climate change.
