As a high-quality clean energy, exploring the benefits of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects on regional economy and sustainable development will challenge its at policy planning levels, which also involves two key goals in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed by United Nations: poverty reduction energy provision. To address this problem, we take China's Photovoltaic Poverty Alleviation Project (PPAP) as an example to empirically study large-scale PV deployment for alleviating multiple dimensions achieving development. We investigated effect using panel dataset 71 pilot counties supported PPAP China from 2014 2017, with propensity score matching difference-in-difference estimation main modeling tools. found that can reduce multidimensional average 3.0% county, benefiting livelihoods. In detail regarding alleviation, effectively level economic capital, social human capital. However, it has limited impact physical natural Besides, state-designated benefit more than non-poverty counties. Geographically, shows strong heterogeneity, most substantial alleviation Northwest China. Our research enhance public's understanding PPAP, promote realization Goal 1 7 affordable SDGs, provide reference policymakers future decision-making, well project other developing countries.
