In this study, zinc–aluminum layered double hydroxide (ZLDH) and its calcined counterpart (CZLDH) were synthesized incorporated into a poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) matrix to develop high-performance anti-corrosion coatings for mild steel substrates. The structural integrity, morphology, dispersion of the LDH fillers analyzed using FTIR, XRD, Raman spectroscopy, SEM/EDS, while coating performance was evaluated through water contact angle (WCA), adhesion tests, electrochemical techniques. Comparative impedance spectroscopy (EIS) potentiodynamic polarization tests in 3.5% NaCl solution revealed that ZLDH/PVDF exhibited superior corrosion resistance long-term stability compared CZLDH/PVDF pristine PVDF coatings. intact lamellar structure ZLDH promoted excellent within polymer matrix, enhancing interfacial adhesion, reducing porosity, effectively blocking chloride ion penetration. Conversely, calcination disrupted ZLDH, compatibility matrix. This study demonstrates critical role ZLDH’s integrity achieving enhanced barrier properties, protection, offering an effective marine applications.
