The increasing demand for food safety and the need to combat emerging foodborne pathogens have driven development of innovative packaging solutions. Active packaging, particularly those incorporating antimicrobial agents, has emerged as a promising approach enhance preservation safety. Among these bacteriophages (phages) gained significant attention due their specificity, efficacy, natural origin. This manuscript explores role active in protecting against pathogens, with particular focus on bacteriophages. review overviews recent advances antimicrobials followed by detailed discussion bacteriophages, including classification, mode action, multidisciplinary applications, use agents packaging. also highlights commercially available bacteriophage-based products addresses challenges limitations associated integration into materials. Despite potential, issues such stability, regulatory hurdles, consumer acceptance remain critical considerations. In conclusion, represent tool enhancing safety, but further research innovation are needed overcome existing barriers fully realize potential industry.
