Guided by situated expectancy–value theory, this study adopted both variable- person-centered approaches explore role supportive environments beliefs fostering students’ The data were drawn from 494 students. In Study 1, variable-centered approach structural equation modeling showed critical promoting 2, latent profile analysis identified three subgroups based on levels beliefs. Consistent with who perceived more higher had stronger We also documented influence field, gender, year level students' perceptions environments, expectancy-value implications these findings improving AI are discussed.

Abstract L2 (second language) grit, an essential personal resource involving perseverance of effort and consistency interest, has been well documented via a variable-centred method. The current study employed latent profile analysis (LPA), person-centred approach, to identify the potential profiles moving beyond previous studies by recognizing student heterogeneity. Drawing on conservation resources (COR) theory, this also examined relationship between foreign language anxiety, achievement within identified grit. Three grit were disclosed, namely, “medium interest”, “great but weak interest”. facilitative function anxiety was realised only for those interest” profile, which interpreted as optimal configuration from lens COR theory. This generated insights future topic.

To further understand the connections between positive emotions, in particular foreign language enjoyment, second (L2) motivation, and English achievement, present study investigated how enjoyment L2 motivation contribute to learners’ achievement mediating role of pathway. A questionnaire was employed collect quantitative data from 512 university students learning as a (EFL) China. The results showed that higher proficiency level, level stronger motivation. Participants reported significant difference private factor ideal self, experience among different groups. Overall, has predictive effect on motivation; however, influence dimensions varies Foreign is predictor partially mediates this These findings provided an in-depth profile Chinese EFL learners at levels, highlighting emotion, contribution learning. Based these findings, pedagogical implications are suggested for teaching tertiary education.

Willingness to communicate (WTC) plays a key role in foreign language learning. However, little research has been devoted the of achievement goals and emotions understanding WTC. The present study aimed examine relationship between (i.e. mastery goals, performance-approach, performance-avoidance goals) WTC via emotions, specifically enjoyment anxiety. Chinese secondary school students ( N = 408) participated this study. Both variable- person-centered approaches were used analyse data. Study 1 variable-centered approach investigate Results indicated that performance-approach positively associated with higher levels enjoyment. anxiety was not significantly 2 adopted identify students’ goal profiles how these could be categorized into four groups: mastery-oriented, high-all, average-all, low-all. Students from different groups showed varying Specifically, mastery-oriented group had most adaptive outcomes, while low-all least desirable outcomes. Theoretical practical implications are discussed.
