A digital pedagogy for transculturing ELT through Global Englishes

Abstract
In
today’s
globalized
and
digitally-driven
world,
ELT
should
move
beyond
‘traditional
ELT’
which
prioritizes
NS
norms
towards
‘transcultural
recognizing
English
as
a
Multilingua
Franca
(EMF)
that
interacts
with
multilingual,
multimodal,
multicultural
resources
in
line
translanguaging.
Building
on
these
principles,
this
study
introduces
the
concept
of
‘transculturing
explores
Digital
Multimodal
Composing
(DMC)
pedagogical
approach
to
integrate
it
through
Global
Englishes
(GE).
Based
student
artefacts
reflections
from
secondary
school
Southeast
China,
shows
transculturing
practice
DMC
enriched
students’
understanding
GE,
engaging
dynamic
language
transcends
linguistic
cultural
boundaries.
With
semiotic
freedom,
they
strategically
employed
diverse
linguistic,
semiotic,
construct
meaning,
reflecting
authenticity
fluidity
modern
communication.
This
offers
practical
insights
for
teachers
equip
students
transcultural
digital
realities
globally-connected
world.

Introduction:
The
sociocultural
characterization
of
students
includes
factors
such
as
ethnicity,
language,
beliefs,
social
practices,
family
environment
and
other
elements
that
affect
their
perception
knowledge
technology;
for
environments
to
be
effective,
it
is
essential
consider
the
students,
since
profoundly
ability
adapt
new
teaching
methods.Objective:
To
determine
relationship
between
in
regular
basic
education
from
high
Andean
areas
interaction
educational
metaverses.Methods:
A
quantitative
correlational
approach
was
adopted
with
a
non-experimental
design,
focusing
on
376
university
who
had
taken
at
least
one
semester
virtual
mode.
Data
collection
done
through
structured
surveys
Likert-type
scales
assess
use
AI
tools
level
adaptation
students.Results:
results
indicated
significant
(r=0.973)
value
(p=0.000)
study
variables.Conclusions:
It
concluded
key
personalize
experiences,
improving
accessibility
interactivity.
In
addition,
need
avoid
over-reliance
importance
fostering
interdisciplinary
collaboration
real-time
feedback
contribute
continuous
improvement
were
highlighted.
