Abstract Background Autistic adults experience more frequent suicidal thoughts and mental health difficulties than non‐autistic adults, but research has yet to explain how these experiences are connected. This study explored anxiety depression contribute according the Interpersonal Theory of Suicide for autistic adults. Methods Participants (autistic n = 463, 61% female; 342, 64% female) completed online measures anxiety, depression, thwarted belonging, perceived burdensomeness. Network analysis whether: (i) being is a risk marker suicide; (ii) pathways consistent Results Being connected closely with feeling like an outsider, movement, which through somatic experiences, low mood, Networks were largely people, connections from mood symptoms belonging absent Conclusion people life stressors leading reduced coping, thoughts. Promoting reducing understanding role movement could inform suicide prevention people. Research should accurately capture lived when modeling ensure meets needs.

Abstract Suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STBs) are major public health concerns among adolescents, research is needed to identify how risk conferred over the short term (hours days). Sleep problems may be associated with elevated for STBs, but less known about this link in youth time periods. The current study utilized a multimodal real-time monitoring approach examine association between sleep (via daily diary actigraphy) next-day suicidal thinking 48 adolescents history of STBs during month following discharge from acute psychiatric care. Results indicated that specific indices assessed via (i.e., greater onset latency, nightmares, ruminative before sleep) predicted thinking. These effects were significant even when sadness baseline depression included models. Moreover, several associations daily-level moderated by person-level measures construct. In contrast, objectively either not related or opposite direction hypothesized. Together, these findings provide some support as short-term factor high-risk adolescents.

Although nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI)—deliberate damaging of body tissue without suicidal intent—is a behavior that occurs in interaction with real-world contexts, studying NSSI the natural environment has historically been impossible. Recent advances real-time monitoring technologies have revolutionized our ability to do exactly that, providing myriad research and clinical practice opportunities. In this viewpoint paper, we review new pathways improve understand, predict, prevent NSSI, provide critical perspectives on responsibilities inherent conducting studies NSSI. Real-time brings unique opportunities advance scientific understanding about (1) dynamic course (2) predictors thereof detect acute risk, (3) ecological validity theoretical models, (4) functional mechanisms outcomes (5) promotion person-centered care novel technology-based interventions. By considering context accompanying (eg, inclusive recruitment, sound transparent practices, participant safety engagement, measurement reactivity, researcher well-being training), insights resources open black box daily life next decade(s) research.
