A century-long debate on bodily states and emotions persists. While the involvement of activity in emotion physiology is widely recognized, specificity causal role such related to brain dynamics has not yet been demonstrated. The transmission of the heartbeat through cerebral vascular system causes intracranial pressure pulsations. We discovered that arterial pulsations can directly modulate central neuronal activity.
