Electrification of private cars is a key mechanism for reducing transport emissions and achieving net zero. Simultaneously, the development public electric vehicle (EV) charging networks essential an equitable transition to EVs. This paper develops analyses extensive, nationally representative dataset EV-charging sessions taking place on network in Scotland between 2022 2024 gain insights that can support infrastructure. Data were collated from 2786 chargers analysed establish detailed characterisation network’s organisation utilisation. The considered government-owned was fundamental Scottish rollout chargers. Key our analysis developed include quantified disparities urban rural charger use-time behaviours, with most areas tending have activity more concentrated towards middle day; numbers deployed greater/lesser deprivation; utilisation technologies, 35% slower being used at least once daily compared 86% rapid/ultra-rapid chargers; demonstration tariff introductions resulted 51.3% average decrease sessions. implications findings policy practice are also discussed.
