The environmental impact of sample preparation should be minimized through simplification the procedures and use natural, renewable and/or reusable materials. In such scenario, thin-film microextraction fulfils former criteria, as it enables few steps miniaturization, thus small amount extraction phase. At same time, sorbents biochars obtained from biomass waste is even more promoted due to their availability at low cost increased life-cycle in a circular economy vision. However, not always easy combine these criteria preparation. A thin film was developed for determination steroids aqueous samples, entailing membrane made cellulose triacetate wood-derived biochar (Nuchar®) carbon precursor. Different characterization techniques showed successful preparation, whereas sorption kinetics experiments demonstrated that responsible with polymer acting smart support. After study about membranes' composition terms amounts (4%, 10%, 16% wt) type synthesis set up, ceramic 3D-mold selected, achieving reproducible ready-to-use membranes fixed 10%. elution conditions, viz. time agitation, type, volume eluent, were evaluated. final followed by HPLC-MS/MS quantification successfully validated river wastewater treatment plant effluents samples accuracy (R% 64-123%, RSD<19% river; R% 61-118%, RSD <18% effluent), sensitivity (MQLs 0.2-8.5 ng L-1) robustness. This novel biochar-based polymeric proved valid sustainable sorbent, capability, ease greenness. By comparison literature greenness evaluation most recent metric tool, this method expands potential applicability open up innovative scenarios entrapped bio-polymers.

Aim of this study stands in the evaluation a carbon nanotubes-based polymerized high internal phase emulsion composite (CNT/polyHIPE) as sorptive biological sample preparation. A micro-solid-phase extraction procedure (µSPE) was developed for trace fluoroquinolone (FQ) antimicrobials, namely Ciprofloxacin, Levofloxacin, Lomefloxacin, Moxifloxacin, Norfloxacin and Sparfloxacin, human urine samples. PolyHIPEs modified by incorporation different concentrations nanotubes (0.2–0.8 wt %) were one-pot synthesized applied packed-cartridge setting. The sorption affinity drugs investigated tap water buffered aqueous solutions, demonstrating key role embedded polymer. 0.5 % CNT selected to develop straightforward µSPE directly raw (1 mL sample), followed HPLC-MS/MS. Targets retained on sorbent at near neutral pH and, after an washing (0.1 v/v formic acid), eluted single-step with 4 ammonia solution (15 acetonitrile), thus combining clean-up. method allowed accurate quantification FQs, evidenced recoveries (74–116 %, n = 3) obtained blank pooled samples spiked 40, 75, 150 µg L−1, accompanied good inter-day precision (RSD < 14 3). To confirm applicability analytical method, some real-life blind processed proof concept.
