Abstract The challenges posed by multi‐crisis environments, such as pandemics and geopolitical uncertainties, create significant opportunities for supply chains (SC) to enhance their sustainability, resilience, agility, thereby developing a strategic advantage. However, seizing these is not without its challenges; critical tensions inevitably arise. This paper, based on systematic review of 287 SC studies, identifies discusses five key tensions: (1) increased trade‐offs between sustainability efficiency; (2) competing priorities resilience; (3) mismatched expectations causing stakeholder pressure; (4) conflicting demands global sustainable operations; (5) unintended consequences technological innovation, disadvantaging stakeholders with limited resources capabilities. To mitigate while leveraging the opportunities, study proposes several pathways, including adopting circular economy principles, optimizing inventory distribution management, employing holistic measurement forecasting, balancing risk‐hedging proactive risk fostering inclusive engagement, globalization regionalization, integrating advanced digital technologies alongside ecosystem wide change management. These strategies offer practical guidance building crises‐ready SCs set stage an extensive research agenda further explore in environments.

Motivated by the critical need for supply chains to withstand disruptions, this paper investigates application of three core resilience strategies and their combinations at network design level. We propose an investigation framework that utilises Monte Carlo simulation generate disruption rates varying severity. This allows mathematical optimisation eight different models, each representing a combination strategies, based on simulated disruptions. The also incorporates farmed structured data analysis examine performance features model. Considering disruptions can affect both suppliers factories, detailed comparison is performed between strategies. Numerical comparisons reveal model incorporating all (Multiple Allocation Network with Backup Suppliers Factories, or MANBSF) outperforms others, potentially achieving zero shortages even under significant comprehensive multiple allocations facilities backup factories. further suggests increases size, density, number complete paths.

Purpose In the last two decades, there has been growing attention to social and environmental issues in fast-fashion supply chains due increased innovation, awareness internationalisation. Extant studies have explored key sustainable practices chain multinational companies (MNCs) small medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). However, this study aims address a dearth of literature related performance measurement. Design/methodology/approach The research uses quantitative qualitative data explore measure MNCs SMEs as comparative study. Prior was systematically evaluated qualitatively using thematic analysis fashion identify challenges chains. Quantitative were gathered from Business Fashion Index (BoF) SMEs’ annual sustainability reports. Two measurement reports conducted attain optimal accuracy results, which are chi-square test Cohen’s d. Findings indicate that emission, water consumption, waste management material usage, transparency labour rights chain’s considerations. Moreover, results suggest greater ability achieve successful because their is often local, contrast impact globalisation on MNCs, large network, thus, more complexity. Originality/value This supports debates by empirically exploring application chain. comparison between envisaged support decision-makers enhancing performance.

Purpose This study investigates food waste within the supply chain (FSC), for case of fresh and short FSC (FS-FSC), aiming to (1) reveal major causes across (2) identify mitigation strategies, (3) measure impacts at each stream, (4) propose practical initiatives support decision/policymakers in strategic management, especially country. Design/methodology/approach adopts a mixed-method approach investigating waste, examining existing literature using template analysis. The focus is on three key elements: factors enabling its final destinations, strategies reduce it. then gathers information from prominent regional retailer consumers through interviews surveys. empirical data collected analysed analysis descriptive statistics. Findings research highlights enablers networks, including procurement storage, processing, operation strategy, people, consumers. differed amount produced, outcome demonstrates that end were largest contributors generated. changes people's habits tastes significantly affect FS-FSC. Interestingly, results demonstrated 40% utilise leftovers as pet food. Practical implications proposed management can help companies minimise mitigate stage. Practitioners use identified implement efforts translate them into actionable plans. Originality/value article outlines addressing an FS-FSC throughout entire chain, encompassing supply, distribution, catering, delivery, consumption. not only sheds light primary reasons wastage but also provides insights potential solutions are effective feasible real-world scenarios.
