The shortage of freshwater resources caused by heavy metal pollution is an acute global issue, which has a great impact on environmental protection and human health. Therefore, the exploitation new strategies for designing synthesizing green, efficient, economical materials detection removal ions crucial. Among various methods ions, advanced functional systems including nanomaterials, polymers, porous materials, biomaterials have attracted considerable attention over past several years due to their capabilities real-time detection, excellent efficiency, anti-interference, quick response, high selectivity, low limit detection. In this tutorial review, we review general design principles underlying aforementioned in particular highlight fundamental mechanisms specific examples detecting removing ions. Additionally, enhance water purification quality using these been reviewed, also current challenges opportunities exciting field highlighted, fabrication, subsequent treatment, potential future applications such materials. We envision that will provide invaluable guidance tailored towards metals, thereby expediting development high-performance fostering more efficient approaches remediation.

There are increasing concerns over the threat of nanoplastics to environmental and human health. However, multidisciplinary barriers persist between communities assessing risks As a result, hazards remain uncertain. Here, we identify key knowledge gaps by evaluating exposure in environment, their bio-nano interactions, examining potential humans environment. We suggest considering complex dynamic mixture polymers, additives, contaminants, with interconnected call for comprehensive integration One Health approach produce robust evidence threats at planetary level. Although there many challenges, this holistic incorporates relevance multi-sectoral responses, which provide opportunity risk mitigation strategies build resilient health systems.

Microplastics, defined as particles <5 mm in diameter, are emerging environmental pollutants that pose a threat to ecosystems and human health. Biofilm degradation of microplastics may be an ecologically friendly approach. This review systematically summarises the factors affecting biofilm proposes feasible methods improve efficiency microplastic degradation. Environmentally insensitive microorganisms were screened, optimized, commercially cultured facilitate practical application this technology. For strain screening, technology should focus on microorganisms/strains can modify hydrophobicity microplastics, degrade crystalline zone metabolise additives microplastics. The biodegradation mechanism is also described; secreting extracellular oxidases hydrolases key for Measuring changes molecular weight distribution (MWD) enables better analysis behaviour has relatively few applications because its low efficiency; however, enrichment freshwater environments wastewater treatment plant tailwater currently most effective method treating with biofilms.
