The production, optimisation, physicochemical, and electroanalytical characterisation of a low-cost electrically conductive additive manufacturing filament made with recycled poly(lactic acid) (rPLA), castor oil, carbon black, graphite (CB-G/PLA) is reported. Through optimising the black loading, best ratio for conductivity, low material cost, printability was found to be 60% 40% graphite. maximum composition within rPLA 10 wt% oil an overall nanocarbon loading 35 which produced price less than £0.01 per electrode whilst still offering excellent low-temperature flexibility reproducible printing. manufactured electrodes from this offered electrochemical performance, heterogeneous electron (charge) transfer rate constant, k0 calculated (2.6 ± 0.1) × 10-3 cm s-1 compared (0.46 0.03) commercial PLA benchmark. were applied determination β-estradiol, achieving sensitivity 400 nA µM-1, limit quantification 70 nM, detection 21 excellently other reports in literature. system then ß-estradiol four real water samples, including tap, bottled, river, lake water, where recoveries between 95 109% obtained. Due ability create high-performance at cost (£0.06 gram) through use more sustainable materials such as polymers, bio-based plasticisers, naturally occurring graphite, will have permanent place electroanalysis arsenal future.
