Biophysical Reviews, Journal Year: 2018, Volume and Issue: 10(3), P. 691 - 706

Published: April 26, 2018

Abstract There is no doubt that ionic liquids have become a major subject of study for modern chemistry. We used to ever more publications in the field each year, although there some evidence this beginning plateau at approximately 3500 papers year. They been several reviews and books, dealing with different applications aspects their behaviours. In article, I will show little how interest grew developed.

Ionic liquids (ILs) are a special category of molten salts solely composed ions with varied molecular symmetry and charge delocalization. The versatility in combining cation-anion moieties functionalizing different atoms groups contributes to their peculiar interactions ranging from weak isotropic associations strong, specific, anisotropic forces. A delicate interplay among intra- intermolecular facilitates the formation heterogeneous microstructures liquid morphologies, which further striking dynamical properties. Microstructural heterogeneities ILs lead multifaceted properties described by an inherent designer feature, makes important candidates for novel solvents, electrolytes, functional materials academia industrial applications. Due massive number combinations ion pairs species having distinct structures IL mixtures containing comprehensive understanding hierarchical structural quantities is great significance rational selection appropriate thereafter advancing macroscopic functionalities In this review, we comprehensively trace recent advances strong that underpin complex phase behaviors particular emphasis on dynamics bulk liquids, cosolvents, interfacial regions.

This review divides the acidic deep eutectic solvents (ADES) into Brønsted and Lewis DES according to their diversity of character. The hydrogen bond donors halide salts for formulating an ADES are classified, synthesis methods described, physicochemical properties including freezing point, acidity, density, viscosity conductivity presented. Furthermore, applications (BADES) (LADES) overviewed, respectively, covering fields in dissolution, extraction, organic reaction metal electrodeposition. It is expected that has great potential replace pollutional mineral acid, expensive unstable solid costly ionic liquid many acid-employed chemical processes, thus meeting demands green chemistry.

The extent to which cations and anions in ionic liquids (ILs) liquid solutions are dissociated is of both fundamental scientific interest practical importance because ion dissociation has been shown impact viscosity, density, surface tension, volatility, solubility, chemical reactivity, many other important physical properties. When mixed with solvents, provide the unique opportunity investigate from infinite dilution solvent a completely solvent-free state, even at ambient conditions. most common way estimate ILs IL by comparing molar conductivity determined measurements such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) (which measure movement only charged, i.e., dissociated, ions) calculated diffusivities measured pulse field gradient nuclear magnetic resonance (PFG-NMR, gives all ions). Because NMR time-consuming, number investigated this method relatively limited. We have that use Stokes-Einstein equation estimates effective Stokes radii allows be easily data (ρ, η, λ), readily available literature for much larger pure solutions. Therefore, review, we present values (aqueous nonaqueous) traditional conductivity/PFG-NMR ρ, λ method. explore effect cation anion alkyl chain length, structure, interaction motifs anion, temperature, strength

Abstract Ionic liquids (ILs) have emerged as a novel class of chemical compounds for the development advanced (multi)functional materials with outstanding potential in applications several areas due to their unique properties and functionalities. The combination ILs polymers, composite, allows developing smart materials, which synergistically combine features specific polymers ILs. Moreover, can be extensively modified by incorporation functional groups into cation, anion, or both. Thus, it is possible tune IL, polymer, both obtain broad spectrum multifunctional composites address requirements many applications. This work focusses on strategies concerning IL/polymer‐based including responsive sensitive sensors, actuators, environment, batteries, fuel cells, biomedical

Abstract Two hybrid chloroantimonates(III), [Bzmim] 3 SbCl 6 ( 1 , Bzmim=1‐benzyl‐3‐methylimidazolium, T m1 =410 K) and 2 5 m2 =348 are presented. exhibits green emission (quantum efficiency of 87.5 %); blue red emissions under the irradiation 310 396 nm light, respectively. Using different cooling methods, crystalline IL@2 (IL=ionic liquid [Bzmim]Cl) could be generated from molten . Reversible structural PL transformation triggered by moisture or heat was observed between Such switching, combined with crystallization‐induced properties resulted in firstly reported triple‐mode reversible that is, on–off (T>T ), color switching (T<T on–off–on (T <T<T ). Furthermore, ink‐ mask‐free laser‐printable rewritable paper achieved. This study demonstrates promise dynamic insertion/extraction ILs chloroantimonates for anti‐counterfeiting paper.
