Colloidal systems and their control play an essential role in daily human activities, but several drawbacks lead to avoidance of extensive application some more productive areas. Some roadblocks are a lack knowledge regarding how influence address colloidal forces, as well practical devices understand these systems. This review focuses on applying dynamic light scattering (DLS) powerful tool for monitoring characterizing nanoparticle aggregation dynamics. We started by outlining the core ideas behind DLS it may be used examine particle size distribution dynamics; then, last section, we included options chemically processed toner. In addition, pinpointed gaps difficulties that obstruct use real-world situations. Although widely used, has limits when dealing with complicated systems, including combinations nanoparticles, high concentrations, non-spherical particles. discussed issues offered possible solutions incorporation supplementary characterization approaches. Finally, emphasized critical is close gap between fundamental studies translation into applications, recognizing challenges science.

The insect Tenebrio molitor exhibits ultrafast efficiency in biodegrading polystyrene (PS). However, the generation and fate of nanoplastics (NPs) intestine during plastic biodegradation remain unknown. In this study, we investigated PS microplastics (MPs) mediated by T. larvae over a 4-week period confirmed analyzing Δδ13C before after biotreatment (−28.37‰ versus −24.88‰) as an effective tool. ·OH radicals, primarily contributed gut microbiota, H2O2, produced host, both increased MP digestion. size distribution residual particles excrements fluctuated within micrometer ranges. NPs were detected but not excrements. At end Weeks 1, 2, 3, 4, concentrations tissues 3.778, 2.505, 2.087, 2.853 ng/lava, respectively, while glands quantified at 0.636, 0.284, 0.113 ng/lava eventually fell below detection limit. remained limit 5 6. This indicates that initially, generated entered glands, then declined gradually disappeared or possibly biodegraded Week associated with elevated plastic-degrading capacities larvae. Our findings unveil rapid synergistic larval host well NPs, providing new insights into risks invertebrate-mediated biodegradation.

It remains unknown whether plastic-biodegrading macroinvertebrates generate microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs) during the biodegradation of plastics. In this study, we utilized highly sensitive particle analyzers pyrolyzer-gas chromatography mass spectrometry (Py-GCMS) to investigate possibility generating MPs NPs in frass polystyrene (PS) low-density polyethylene (LDPE) foams by mealworms (Tenebrio molitor larvae). We also developed a digestive biofragmentation model predict unveil fragmentation process ingested The removed 77.3% PS 71.1% PE over 6-week test period. Biodegradation both polymers was verified increase δ13C signature residual plastics, changes molecular weights, formation new oxidative functional groups. accumulated due biofragmentation, with exhibiting maximum percentage number at 2.75 7.27 μm, respectively. Nevertheless, were not detected using laser light scattering sizer detection limit 10 nm Py-GCMS analysis. predicted that progressively size-reduced rapidly biodegraded, indicating shorter half-life smaller plastic particles have. This study allayed concerns regarding accumulation plastic-degrading provided critical insights into factors controlling MP NP generation macroinvertebrate-mediated biodegradation.
