Large volumes of water are used in energy production for both primary (e.g., fuel extraction) and secondary electricity). In countries such as China, with a large internal trade fuels long-distance transmission grids, this can result considerable inequalities. Previous research focused on the impacts at national provincial levels, which is too coarse to identify spatial differences make specific case studies. Here, we take next step toward spatially explicit economically integrated water-use assessment by combining bottom-up approach city-level multiregional input–output model. Specifically, examine consumption distinguishing between level coal mines, oil gas fields, power plants first time. Of total energy-related freshwater 4.9 Gm3 2017, accounted 19% (940 Mm3) 81% (3955 Mm3). Coal was largest consumer (540 3880 Mm3, respectively), (361, 0.5 respectively) (7 69 also consuming amounts. Intercity virtual water, that is, embodied across cities, reached 54% (2.6 Gm3) consumption. Across 32% cities see bilateral secondary- primary-energy-related Daqing city exports other then produce electricity those part back via transmission). For these 73% export more than import 27% export. This study reveals significant patterns scale direction) provide information about their inflow outflow potential collaboration partners management.

Solar desalination and fog harvesting are two common ways to obtain fresh water, both promising methods solve the water shortage problem. However, through either fabrication of interfacial evaporators for solar or preparation superwetting surfaces harvesting, current suffer from long times, high costs, low efficiency. Herein, we report an efficient simple method process heterogeneous (HSs) on aluminum (Al) by picosecond laser processing combined with chemical treatment used seawater desalination. The as-prepared HS simultaneously consists regular periodic stripe structures superhydrophilicity superhydrophobicity. spacing superhydrophilic superhydrophobic regions can be adjusted path. This surface has a 44% improvement in efficiency compared pristine Al sheet, which is 0.53 kg·m–2·h–1. Furthermore, it shows evaporation rate 2.35 kg·m–2·h–1 under one sun irradiation energy 52.39%. A prerequisite for the rational development and utilization of regional water resources is measurement stress. In this study, from perspective footprints, we took proportion agricultural footprint within total resource usage Xinjiang (hereafter referred to as XJ) an example measure its stress index explore state in region corresponding driving factors. The ESDA method was applied characterize spatial patterns correlations with effects different factors on differentiation between were quantified using LMDI geoprobes, respectively. results showed that (1) both XJ upward trend, distribution uneven, pressure difference east west greater than north south; (2) has obvious negative correlation, fluctuations discrete nature have been enhanced, number spatially correlated prefectures decreasing; (3) consumption CNY 10,000 GDP, GDP per capita, CO2 emissions most significant impact evolution XJ.
