Carotenoids, the bright yellow, orange, and red pigments of many fruits vegetables, are essential components human diet as bioactive compounds not synthesized in animals. As a staple crop potato has potential to deliver substantial amounts these nutraceuticals despite their lower concentration tubers compared edible organs other plant species. Even small gains tuber carotenoid levels could have significant impact on nutritional value potatoes. This review will focus current status future perspectives biofortification with conventional breeding biotechnological approaches. The high biodiversity composition is presented, an emphasis under-exploited native germplasm that represents wide reservoir useful genetic variants breed carotenoid-rich varieties. following section describes structural genes involved metabolism storage known major accumulation potato, together strategies harnessed expression changes increase content. Finally, little information available regulation desirable advances discussed.

Summary Anthocyanin biosynthesis and accumulation determines the colour of tuber flesh in potato ( Solanum tuberosum ) influences nutritional quality. However, regulatory mechanism behind anthocyanin remains unclear. In this study, we identified Pigmented Pf locus through a genome‐wide association study using 135 diploid landraces. Genome editing two tandem R2R3 MYB transcription factor genes, StMYB200 StMYB210 , within demonstrated that both genes are involved flesh. Molecular biochemical assays revealed promotes by directly binding to 1.7‐kb insertion present promoter, while also regulates its own expression. Furthermore, activated expression basic helix–loop–helix gene StbHLH1 interacted with regulate biosynthesis. An analysis promoter different accessions showed is associated potato. These findings reveal genetic molecular which provide an important reference for breeding new varieties colourful

Pigmented potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) are rich in anthocyanin, which have antioxidantiy and play an important role health medical. Nevertheless, the regulation mechanism of anthocyanins purple potato at different growth stages remain unclear. In this study, through using high-throughput sequencing systematic bioinformatics analysis, a total 7,176 significantly expressed genes (DEGs) were discovered from Huasong 66 tubers developmental stages. Through GO KEGG enrichment it was found that, 43 DEGs mainly enriched phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, flavonoid phenylalanine metabolism, biological processes closely related to anthocyanin biosynthesis. The quantitative RT-PCR verified reliability transcriptome data. We demonstrated that or transcription factors (TFs) metabolism involved such as protein-coding PAL, CHS, CHI, 4CL, F3H, UFGT, LAR, TFs MYB, bHLH, HY5. key synthesis identificated, provides new insights for molecular breeding cultivars. These results valuable improving potato.
