Superhydrophobic nanocomposite coatings, prepared using adhesive and fillers, offer advantages including ease of fabrication suitability for large-scale applications, but compared with other types artificial superhydrophobic surfaces, poor durability still limits these surfaces from practical applications. The utilization micro/nanoscale particles both intrinsic hydrophobicity robust mechanical properties to prepare coatings should significantly contribute enhanced durability. Herein, rough hydrophobic micro/nano hierarchical structures were at first, fabricated the additional nanoparticles. initially formed a framework coating, while nanoparticles provided inevitable nanoscale structures. A series tests carried out validate durability, surface 20 wt.% NPs exhibited best performance, withstanding 30 tape peeling tests, 2.47 m sandpaper rubbing test (at pressure 5 kPa), impact 200 g grit dropped height cm, 2 h acidic immersion. These appealing materials may attract attention self-cleaning, high-speed water resistance, anti-icing, anti-fouling applications in industry.

Marine biofouling seriously affects human marine exploitation and transportation activities, to which antifouling (AF) coatings are considered be the most cost-effective solution. Since mid-20th century, beings have dedicated their efforts on developing AF with long cycle high performance, leading a large number of non-target organisms' distortion, death environmental pollution. Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), is as one representative environment-friendly materials thanks its non-toxic, hydrophobic, low surface energy properties. However, PDMS prone mechanical damage, weak adhesion strength substrate, poor static effect, restrict use in ocean. The rapid development various nanomaterials provides an opportunity enhance improve properties coating by embedding nanomaterials. Extensive utilization in various settings poses extra requirements of coatings beyond just anticorrosion properties. Herein, 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ) intercalated CaAl-based layered double hydroxide (CaAl-8HQ-LDH) was loaded on reduced GO (rGO) through a one-pot hydrothermal reaction, which employed as the nanofiller endowing epoxy (EP/CaAl-8HQ LDH@rGO) with excellent flame-retardancy while ensuring efficient protection for mild steel. Results electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) demonstrated durability EP/CaAl-8HQ LDH@rGO-coated specimen, at lowest frequency (|Z|0.01Hz) maintained 1.84 × 1010 Ω cm2 after 120 days immersion 3.5 wt % NaCl solution. Even scratched LDH@rGO system, only slight decline |Z|0.01Hz observed during 180 h exposure to solution, indicating self-healing feature supported by salt spray tests. UL-94 burning tests revealed V-0 rating improved thermostability. Strong physical barrier from two-dimensional rGO and release 8-HQ LDH interlayers accounted anticorrosive However, O2-concentration dilution charring-layer promotion governed flame-retardant behavior nanocomposite coating. The intercomponent synergy nanofillers achieved this work may provide useful reference designing multifunctional coatings.

Marine biofouling and corrosion have become the main problems affecting development of marine industry. Silicone-based coatings been widely used for antifouling anticorrosion due to their low surface energy. However, poor adhesion mechanical stability these materials limit application in complex environments. In this work, we presented a coating named POSS-DMA@PDMS-TCM through photoinitiated thiol-ene click reaction combined with (mercaptopropyl) methylsiloxane dimethylsiloxane (PDMS-SH), dopamine methacrylamide (DMA), sulfhydryl-functionalized organosiloxanes (POSS-(SH)8), N-(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl) maleimide (TCM). The exhibited strong bonding ability both air (2.17 MPa) underwater (2.11 when DMA content was 3 wt %. high antibacterial (98.1% Staphylococcus aureus 99.5% Escherichia coli) antidiatom (94.5%) properties also confirmed. Moreover, show excellent abilities 120-day field tests, reducing fouling by 65.5% comparison blank group. displayed superior performance Ecorr values -0.055 V, Icorr 7.67 × 10-6 , Rp 3.10 105 Ω Cu, which benefited from chelating effect liquid repellency. This study provides novel strategy high-quality coatings.
