A
new
ruthenium-catalyzed
direct
and
selective
synthesis
of
semisaturated
bicyclic
pyrimidines,
from
α-aminopyridyl
alcohols
nitriles,
has

easily
available
catalyst
system,
broad
substrate
scope,
excellent
functional
tolerance,

gas.
Control
experiments
indicate
that
the
reaction
via
successive
dehydrogenative
annulation
transfer
hydrogenation
less
electrophilic
pyridyl
nucleus,
density
theory
(DFT)
study
reveals
origin
such
a
unique
selectivity.
