Abstract Large‐scale production of full‐color carbon dots (CDs) at room temperature under atmospheric pressure will promote their industrial application. Herein, o‐phenylenediamine is used as a single‐precursor source and hydrogen peroxide an oxidant. Kilogram‐scale CDs are obtained by stirring these reactants in air for 30 min. After purification acid treatment, blue‐, green‐, red‐fluorescence with photoluminescence peaks 481, 539, 625 nm quantum yields 21.76%, 27.12%, 13.06%, respectively. Based on chemical structural characterizations, reasonable formation mechanism deduced, blue, green, red fluorescence arising from nuclei stacked conjugate planes containing fragments quinoxaline, 2,3‐diaminophenazine (2,3‐DAPN), protonated 2,3‐DAPN, High‐quality multi‐color white light‐emitting diodes successfully fabricated to demonstrate potential commercial applications display illumination.

Using biomass materials to prepare carbon dots (CDs) has received significant interest. As a cheap and environmentally friendly material, waste leather scrap can be used for the preparation of CDs performance tuning. Herein, is as precursor reactant fabricate multicolor (red, green, blue) (R-CDs, G-CDs, B-CDs) with tunable emission wavelength via simple one-step hydrothermal/solvothermal strategy using only nitrogen source (p-phenylenediamine or o-phenylenediamine) doping. The morphology, structure, optical properties were investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman ζ-potential measurements, photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis), photoluminescence (PL), UV-differential reflectance (UV-DRS). Results showed that sizes R-CDs, B-CDs are 10.0, 7.4, 2.5 nm, respectively, all have typical crystal plane graphitic structure rich in chemical groups such C═O, −OH, C–N, etc. detailed characterization comparison three types confirm size functional effectively add other energy levels transitions tuning luminescent CDs. wavelengths 612, 535, 429 at same time, calculated UV–vis DRS 2.11, 2.43, 2.58 eV, respectively.
