Radioactive iodine, a key waste product of nuclear energy, has been significant concern among materials because its high volatility and ability to easily enter the human metabolism. Porous containing large number N-heterocyclic units such as carbazole in skeletons use effective adsorbents showing iodine capture capacities. Herein, new carbazole-bismaleimide-based hyper-cross-linked porous organic polymer (CzBMI-POP) was successfully prepared from tetra-armed carbazole-maleimide monomer (Bis-Cz(BMI)), which contains biscarbazole maleimide side groups. To produce CzBMI-POP, free radical polymerization reaction carried out via unsaturated double bonds Bis-Cz(BMI), enabling construction N-rich skeleton simple practical way. A surface area POP with backbone having affinity for uptake sponge-like pore structures ranging 2 20 nm showed capacity up 215 wt %. The study highlights opportunities POPs platform waste, highlighting their potential environmental remediation due easy synthesis low cost.
