ABSTRACT Polycarbonate‐acrylonitrile‐butadiene‐styrene (PC‐ABS) has been treated with an aqueous solution of N ‐methylpyrrolidone (NMP) and ethanol (C 2 H 5 OH) under conditions that achieve a controlled level polymer swelling. In addition, the micro‐etching effect alkaline potassium permanganate on PC‐ABS was investigated using low environmental impact binary system. The NaOH concentration, etching time, temperature surface roughness, morphology, wettability, adhesion strength examined. characteristics were analyzed field emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force (AFM), Fourier transform‐infrared (FT‐IR) spectroscopy, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). results have demonstrated morphology altered after micro‐etching, increase in roughness ( R ) from 9.69 to 316 nm. contact angle decreased 92.2° 30.1°, increased 0.88 kN/m. findings this study established effective process enhances copolymer.
