Lignin is a promising UV-shielding material to substitute the synthetic absorbers in composite due its excellent property. The chromophores group of lignin responsible for property composites, but it brings an undesirable dark color. This perspective first review recent progress on fabricating light-colored composites that contain lignin; we provide clear picture concept UV-absorbing materials can be used food packaging, healthcare products, and solar panel protection. photostability mechanisms are introduced by correlating UV absorption with intrinsic factors, like phenolic substructures molecular weight lignin. Extrinsic factors affect properties color lignin, such as extraction process, chemical modification method, obtained size also systematically discussed this perspective. By summarizing studies synergetic effect between second constitute materials, discusses benefits composite's overall properties, stability under radiation, mechanical property, dispersity, water permeability.

Lignin is the most abundant polyaromatic biopolymer. Due to its rich and versatile chemistry, many applications have been proposed, which include formulation of functional coatings films. In addition replacing fossil-based polymers, lignin biopolymer can be part new material solutions. Functionalities may added, such as UV-blocking, oxygen scavenging, antimicrobial, barrier properties, draw on lignin's intrinsic unique features. As a result, various including polymer coatings, adsorbents, paper-sizing additives, wood veneers, food packaging, biomaterials, fertilizers, corrosion inhibitors, antifouling membranes. Today, technical produced in large volumes pulp paper industry, whereas even more diverse products are prospected available from future biorefineries.
