High load-bearing capacity is one of the crucial indicators for liquid superlubricants to move toward practicality. However, some current emerging systems not only have low contact pressures but also are highly susceptible further degradation due water adsorption and even superlubricity failure. Herein, a novel choline chloride-based ionic analogues (ILAs) superlubricant with triethanolamine (TEOA) as H-bond donor reported first time; it obtains an ultralow coefficient friction (0.005) high (360 MPa, more than 2 times that similar systems) small amount (<5 wt %) from air. In situ Raman combined 1H NMR FTIR techniques reveals adsorbed competes hydroxyl group TEOA coordination Cl–, leading conversion strong H-bonds weak in ILAs; localized endow ILAs formation shear-resistance sliding interfaces, respectively, under shear motion. This study proposes strategy modulate interactions between species using air competing ligand, which provides new insights into design ILA-based macroscopic capacity.

In this study, a comb-like polymer functionalized phosphate ionic liquid was synthesized and tested for its effectiveness in reducing friction wear, as well capability to prevent micropitting PAO base oil using SRV MPR. It outperforms commercially available liquids. The wear surface characteristics were analyzed optical electron microscopy, changes compound structure on the studied XPS spectroscopy. Through combination of experimental observations theoretical analysis, it is suggested that lubrication mechanism attributed synergistic effect between "soft film" containing polymers formed through adsorption liquid, tribofilm consisting compounds nitrogen-containing organic matrix.
