Chitosan was molecularly imprinted to remove triolein (a model lipid triacylglyceride) from water. Molecularly-imprinted chitosan (chitosan-MIP) synthesized by crosslinking it with glutaraldehyde in the presence of as template at 50°C for 2h. MIPs octanoyl derivative chitosan(Oct-MIP) were also prepared similar method. Octanoyl N-acylation using chloride room temperature 12h. Contact angle measurements water droplet on and revealed increased hydrophobicity chitosan. FTIR spectroscopy used characterize MIPs. All polymers. Oct-MIP chitosan-MIP could imprint approximately 77% 66% template, respectively. Abstract Green chemistry and green engineering concepts have been combined to develop novel sustainable polymeric materials. Solvent free photocurable acrylate resins with biorenewable carbon content of 75%–82% suitable for application in DLP 3D printing technology were composed by commercially available bio‐based materials, acrylated epoxidized soybean oil (AESO), isobornyl methacrylate (IBOMA), methacrylic ester (ME), tetrahydrofurfuryl (THFA), (THFMA). They demonstrated high accuracy good adhesion between layers. The monitoring photocross‐linking kinetics photoresins the real‐time photorheometry analysis their rheological parameters was carried out. Synthesized polymers exhibited yield insoluble fraction thermal decomposition temperature at weight loss 10% above 300°C. Polymers AESO/IBOMA AESO/THFMA showed highest values tensile modulus strength. Biodegradability synthesized AESO/ME, AESO/THFA, investigated measuring oxygen consumption a closed respirometer. Such AESO‐based can be competitive solution replace petroleum‐derived materials additive manufacturing reduce environmental impact.

Abstract Spilled plant-based oils behave very differently in comparison to petroleum and require different clean-up measures. They do not evaporate, disperse, dissolve, or emulsify a significant degree but can polymerize form an impermeable cap on sediment, smothering benthic media resulting immediate impact the wildlife community. The current study explored application of rapid up-to-date direct analysis real time (DART) with high-resolution mass spectrometry for oil typing. introduced new concept using hydrophobic paper collect analyze samples, thus minimizing sample preparation expenses. Application this technique showed its ability speedily distinguish from petroleum-based oils. A microcosm experiment exposing samples weathering processes demonstrated method classify weathered identify their source oil. It was observed that canola peanut were most resistant processes. developed DART-TOFMS shown be accurate short-term spills up between 12 26 days exposure. performed identification less than day compared established multi-day spill forensics requiring careful collection glass containers, time-consuming laboratory clean-up, lengthy gas chromatography sequences, integration including retention markers.

Determining and monitoring toxicity of chemicals in water are very important for human health country security. Electrochemical measurement respiratory chain activity is a rapid reliable screening the towards microorganisms. Here, we report sensitive bioassay using p-benzoquinone as artificial electron mediator Escherichia coli test organism. Four heavy metal ions, Cu2+, Ag+, Hg2+ Co2+, tested model toxicants, corresponding 50% respiration inhibition concentrations (IC50) determined to be 0.95, 8.14, 11.69 42.76 mg L−1, respectively. Based on IC50 values, descending order is: Cu2+ > Ag+ Co2+. The presented not only provides good foundation further tests E. coli, but also potential expanding technique utilize other bacteria with complementary responses, thereby allowing use wide range applications.

Leakage of transformer dielectric fluids is a concern because it may pose risk environmental contamination. In this study, the deleterious effects vegetable and mineral in water bodies were investigated using biodegradability acute toxicity tests with Danio rerio Artemia salina. Regarding biodegradability, all four tested oils (soy, canola, sunflower crambe) considered as easily biodegradable, presenting degradation rates significantly higher than Lubrax-type fluid. Acute performed two separate experiments without solution renewal. first experiment, organisms exposed direct contact to different concentrations (soy) (Lubrax) oils. Total soy-type oil has toxic effect oil. second increasing percentages water-soluble fraction (WSF) both types The LC50 values for about 5 8% salina bioindicators, respectively, whereas did not present effect, regardless its WSF. These results have shown that strict selection monitoring leakage from power transformers serious duty protection agencies.
