Waste cooking oils (WCO) are vegetable discarded after food frying and great amounts produced worldwide. Its management is a challenge, due to the environmental risk of illegally disposal into rivers landfills. The main approaches for WCO valorization included their incorporation as component animal feed biodiesel manufacturing. Yet, development new feasible attractive from an economic ecological standpoint. Due composition in triglycerides, untreated can be used feedstock microbial growth (several species able use them carbon source) production added-value compounds. In this way, sustainable biotechnological approach upgrade waste renewable bio-based industry, favoring circular economy concept. objective review highlight potential bioprocesses alternative other physicochemical treatments. Firstly, introduction problematic presented, describing most common applications currently. Then, extensive on by microorganisms shown, focusing bacterial fungi its exploitation produce metabolites industrial interest, such biopolymers, biosurfactants, lipases lipids.

Abstract Fatty epoxides are produced from the corresponding alkenes by oxidation in presence of peracids or other oxidants. The classic method is Prilezhaev epoxidation which generated situ formic acetic acids with hydrogen peroxide. Epoxidized vegetable oils and esters used directly as biobased plasticizers stabilizers for poly(vinyl chloride) important platform chemicals oleochemical industry. Nucleophilic attack at oxirane moiety affords a variety ring opened monomeric polymeric products, many cases undergo further synthetic modification to yield finished products. most common nucleophiles include water, alcohols, carboxylic acids, acid anhydrides, amines, although numerous others can also lead valuable functionalized fatty derivatives. This review summarizes chemistry epoxide opening reactions well applications resultant Literature last 20 years will be emphasized, older publications particular significance included. Important lubricants polyols subsequent production polyurethanes. In addition, ring‐opening hitherto unreported on oxiranes suggested facilitate advancements utility epoxides. Finally, interest their consequent products continue grow due simplicity, efficiency, versatility formation continued societal transition away petroleum sustainable, circular, low‐carbon, economy.

Owing to its chemical structure, wide availability and renewable nature, lignin is a promising candidate for the partial replacement of fossil-based raw material in synthesis epoxy resins. Its poor compatibility has been reported be one main drawbacks this domain. On other hand, well-established modification method epoxidation used many years improvement compatibility. However, extent effect on bio-based mechanical properties, applied as adhesives, still an open question literature. In context, pristine industrial grade kraft (AKL) was reacted with epichlorohydrin yield epoxidized (E-AKL) work. Afterwards, AKL or E-AKL were separately blended petroleum-based resin at 15 30 wt% cured commercial amine. The adhesive curing kinetic evaluated using novel technique thermal transition characterization, Temperature Modulated Optical Refractometry (TMOR); results showed that incorporation reduces crosslinking rate, overcome by modification. Mechanical tests revealed impact practical adhesion strength samples containing E-AKL. These elucidate application lignin-based might support further development these materials.
