Unraveling the mechanisms structuring microbial community is a central goal in ecology, but detailed understanding of how assembly processes relate to living habitats still lacking. Here, via 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing, we investigated process communities different [water verse sediment, free-living (FL) particle-associated (PA)] and their impacts on inter-taxa association patterns coastal Bohai Sea, China. The results showed clear differences composition diversity among habitats, with greater dissimilarities between water column sediment than FL PA communities. was dominated by dispersal limitation, ecological drift, homogeneous selection, relative importance varied habitats. planktonic were mainly shaped limitation whereas selection played more important role benthic Furthermore, differed communities, especially bottom effect drift fractions, respectively. Linking co-occurrence pattern that contribution deterministic (mainly selection) increased under closer relationships. By contrast, stochastic exerted higher when there less connections. Overall, our findings demonstrate contrasting underpinning distribution including lifestyles, which indicate complex dynamic systems high anthropogenic perturbations.

Studies of marine benthic archaeal communities are updating our view their taxonomic composition and metabolic versatility. However, large knowledge gaps remain with regard to community assembly processes inter taxa associations. Here, using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing qPCR, we investigated the spatiotemporal dynamics, processes, co-occurrence relationships in 58 surface sediment samples collected both summer winter from across ~1500 km eastern Chinese marginal seas. Clear patterns dynamics structure were observed, a more pronounced spatial rather than seasonal variation. Accompanying geographic variation was significant distance-decay pattern varying contributions different clades, determined by relative abundance. In seasons, dispersal limitation most important process, explaining ~40% variation, followed homogeneous selection ecological drift, that made an approximately equal contribution (~30%). This meant stochasticity determinism had greater impact on assembly. Furthermore, observed seasonality patterns: closer inter-taxa connections summer, unmatched between relationship. These results demonstrate assembled under seasonal-consistent mechanism but changed over indicating complex dynamic coastal sediments

To better understand the relationship between subsurface seasonal deoxygenation and acidification in Yellow Sea northern East China (ECS), we examined carbonate system parameters dissolved oxygen (DO) of seven field surveys conducted 2017–2018, spanning all four seasons. Low pHT values 7.71‒7.80 critically low aragonite saturation state (Ωarag) 1.07‒1.40 along with undersaturated DO mostly higher than 150 μmol O2 kg–1 occurred Cold Water Mass area summer autumn, while hypoxic 49‒63 extremely 7.68‒7.74 as well Ωarag 1.21‒1.39 were observed ECS July 2018. At beginning warm-season stratification formation, cold waters had much but lower those relatively warmer waters, yearly initial rarely exhibited differences two coastal seas. During warm seasons, central accumulated respiration products beneath thermocline bottom preserved them only summer. This study highlights fundamental roles wintertime carbon dioxide (CO2) solubility a north-to-south latitude gradient development. In comparison low-latitude subject to hypoxia, high-latitude exhibits CO2 winter longer respiration-product accumulations leading ECS. However, present-day is free from hypoxia.
