Abstract Devising an approach to deterministically position organisms can impact various fields such as bioimaging, cybernetics, cryopreservation, and organism‐integrated devices. This requires continuously assessing the locations of randomly distributed collect transfer them target spaces without harm. Here, aspiration‐assisted adaptive printing system is developed that tracks, harvests, relocates living moving on via a pick‐and‐place mechanism adapts updated visual spatial information about spaces. These strategies successfully positioned single static organism, multiple in droplets, organism Their capabilities are exemplified by vitrification‐ready cryoprotectant sorting live from dead ones, positioning curved surfaces, organizing organism‐powered displays, integrating with materials devices customizable shapes. ultimately lead autonomous biomanufacturing methods evaluate assemble for variety multi‐organism‐based applications.

Plant pathogens are responsible for causing economic and production losses in several crops worldwide, thus reducing the quality quantity of agricultural supplies. To reduce usage chemically synthesized pesticides, strategies approaches using microorganisms being used plant disease management. Most studies concerning plant-growth promotion biological agents to control diseases mainly focused on bacteria. In addition, a great portion registered commercialized biopesticides bacterial-based products. Despite fungal endophytes having been identified as promising candidates their use control, it is utmost importance develop improve existing knowledge this research field. The genus Diaporthe, encompasses pathogens, saprobes that have screened secondary metabolite, due polyketides variety unique bioactive metabolites with agronomic importance. Some these exhibit antifungal antibacterial activity controlling phytotoxic development potential mycoherbicides. Moreover, species Diaporthe reported biofertilizers. Abstract Understanding the impact of demographic and ecological factors on strength sexual selection is pivotal to predict eco‐evolutionary dynamics in populations facing environmental change. Density expected show pervasive intra‐ interspecific variation natural populations, but its effect remains largely unexplored. We tested experimentally density standardized metrics male female red flour beetles. Specifically, we explored effects during mating by manipulating size groups arena. found that higher densities imposed a larger group amplified opportunity for pre‐copulatory females and, smaller extent, also males. Moreover, males, detected post‐copulatory groups. By contrast, differences arena resulted steeper gradient. Overall, these data suggest an important factor contributing tremendous within among species. Read free Plain Language Summary this article Journal blog.

Abstract CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing has now expanded to many insect species, including Tribolium castaneum . However, compared Drosophila melanogaster , the CRISPR toolkit of T. is limited. A particularly apparent gap lack Cas9 transgenic animals, which generally offer higher efficiency. We address this by creating and testing beetles expressing Cas9. generated two different constructs bearing basal heat shock promoter‐driven Cas9, distinct 3′ UTRs, one containing fused EGFP a T2A peptide. Analyses activity in each line demonstrated that both designs are capable inducing CRISPR‐ mediated changes absence induction. Overall, these resources enhance accessibility for research community provide benchmark against compare future lines.

Dispersal behaviour is an important aspect of the life-history animals. However, genetic architecture dispersal-related traits often obscure or unknown, even in well studied species. Tribolium castaneum a globally significant post-harvest pest and established model organism, yet studies its dispersal have shown ambiguous results basis this remains unresolved. We combine experimental evolution agent-based modelling to investigate number loci underlying T. castaneum, whether trait sex-linked. Our findings demonstrate rapid under selection. find no evidence sex-biases offspring crosses, supporting autosomal trait. Moreover, simulated data approximates scenarios where controlled by one few loci, but not many loci. Levels experimentally inbred lines, compared with simulations, indicate that single locus supported. Taken together, these lines support oligogenic castaneum. These implications for applied management our understanding coleoptera, world's most species-rich order.
