Artificial chiral nanostructures have been subjected to extensive research for their unique chiroptical activities. Planarized films of ultrathin thicknesses are in particular demand easy on-chip integration and improved energy efficiency as polarization-sensitive metadevices. Recently, controlled twisted stacking two or more layers nanomaterials, such 2D van der Waals materials, films, traditional metasurfaces, at an angle has emerged a general strategy introduce optical chirality into achiral solid-state systems. This method endows new degrees freedom, e.g., the interlayer twist angle, flexibly engineer tune responses without having change material design, thus greatly facilitating development multifunctional metamaterials. In this review, recent exciting progress planar metasurfaces summarized discussed from viewpoints building blocks, fabrication methods, well circular dichroism modulation thereof stacked nanostructures.
