Chronic primary orofacial pain (OFP) conditions such as painful temporomandibular disorders (pTMDs; i.e., myofascial and arthralgia), idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia (TN), burning mouth syndrome (BMS) are seemingly idiopathic, but evidence support complex multifactorial etiology pathophysiology. Important fragments of this array factors have been identified over the years largely with help preclinical studies. However, findings yet to translate into better care for chronic OFP patients.
