Covalent polymers connected by non-covalent interactions constitute a fascinating set of materials known as supramolecular polymer networks (SPNs). A key feature SPNs is that the underlying covalent endow resulting self-assembled with features, such structural and mechanical integrity, good processability, recyclability, stimuli-responsiveness, self-healing, shape memory, are not recapitulated in case classic systems. The unique nature derives from controlled marriage traditional macrocycle-based host-guest interactions. As consequence, polymeric have played important roles number diverse fields, including science, chemistry, biomedical materials, information storage technology. In this Review, we summarize advances made area functional SPNs, focus on original literature reports appearing past five years. treatment organized according to used produce various SPNs. role backbones also discussed.

Polymeric materials with integrated functionalities are required to match their ever-expanding practical applications, but there is always a trade-off between complex material performances and synthetic simplification. A simple effective synthesis route reported transform small molecule of biological origin, thioctic acid, into high-performance supramolecular polymeric material, which combines processability, ultrahigh stretchability, rapid self-healing ability, reusable adhesivity surfaces. The proposed one-step preparation process this involves the mixing three commercially available feedstocks at mild temperature without any external solvent subsequent cooling that resulted in dynamic, high-density, dry network cross-linked by different types dynamic chemical bonds, whose cooperative effects enable high performance material.

The Bigger PictureGels are ubiquitous soft solids that widely used in everyday life. Most gels based on polymeric materials, as either entangled biopolymers or covalently cross-linked networks. Low-molecular-weight gels, supramolecular another fascinating and useful class of gel. Here, the assembly small molecules into a network immobilizes solvent. These materials becoming increasingly common offer an opportunity to prepare interesting, designed, responsive systems.
