The weak interlamellar interaction of covalent organic framework (COF) nanocrystals inhibit the construction highly efficient ion/molecular sieving membranes owing to inferior contaminant selectivity induced by defects in stacked COF and stability issues. Here, a facile situ molecularly soldered strategy was developed fabricate defect-free ultrathin with precise abilities using typical chemical environment for condensation polymerization dopamine self-polymerization. experimental data density functional theory simulations proved that reactive oxygen species generated during catalyze nucleophilic reactions COF, thus facilitating counter-diffusion growth thin layers. Notably, can eliminate soldering crystals, fortifying mechanical properties membranes. exhibited ultrafast precision molecular separation ion removal both aqueous solvents, which surpasses state-of-the-art

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are a class of crystalline porous polymers with permanent porosity and highly ordered structures. Unlike other polymers, significant feature COFs is that they structurally predesignable, synthetically controllable, functionally manageable. In principle, the topological design diagram offers geometric guidance for structural tiling extended polygons, polycondensation reactions provide synthetic ways to construct predesigned primary high-order Progress over past decade in chemistry these two aspects undoubtedly established base COF field. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs), which are constructed from linkers, a new class of crystalline porous materials comprising periodically extended and covalently bound network structures. The intrinsic structures the tailorable linkers endow COFs with low density, large surface area, tunable pore size structure, facilely-tailored functionality, attracting increasing interests in different fields including membrane separations. Exciting research activities ranging fabrication strategies to separation applications COF-based membranes have appeared. This review analyzes synthesis diverse continuous/discontinuous COF membranes, such as mixed matrix (MMMs), thin film nanocomposite (TFN) free-standing films. Special attention was given size, stability, hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity charge view determining proper for fabrication, along approaches fabricate blending, situ growth, layer-by-layer stacking interfacial polymerization (IP). Moreover, gas separation, water treatment (deaslination dye removal), solvent nanofiltration (OSN), pervaporation fuel cell disscussed. Finally, we illustrate advantages disadvantages through comparison MOF-based remaining challenges future opportunities this field.
