Pretreatment approaches are highly desirable to improve the commercial viability of nanocellulose production. In this study, we propose a new approach mass produce using hydrated choline chloride/oxalic acid dihydrate deep eutectic solvent (DES) combined with an ultrasonic process. The hydrogen bond acidity, polarizability, and solvation effect reflected by Kamlet-Taft solvatochromic parameters did not decrease even after addition large amounts water. Instead, water facilitated ionization H+ delocalization Cl- ions, forming Cl-H2O ionic oxalate-H2O bonds, which critical for improving characteristics. One pass kraft pulp through DESs (80 °C, 1 h) was sufficient dissociate into cellulose nanofibers or nanocrystals 800 W treatment. present study represents alternative route pretreatment large-scale production nanocellulose.

Biomass valorization for the production of various value-added biochemicals and biofuels plays a significant role in modern biorefineries/bioenergy towards climate neutrality future. Among developed techniques biorefining, hydrothermal biological treatments have been demonstrated to valorize raw biomass materials or upgrade biorefinery intermediate products afford respectably desired product yields. From perspective both green chemistry circular bioeconomy, whether inter-disciplinary approach could achieve complete with balanced energy extra profits remains questionable. This review is presented provide an overview opportunities combining valorization. Combinations including (1) pretreatment followed by (such as enzymatic hydrolysis, fermentation, anaerobic digestion, composting) (2) substrates generated from hydrolysis pretreated food waste, digestion produced digestate) biochar, biocrude syngas are comprehensively reviewed. The recent advances regarding treatment conditions, synergies between techniques, optimal performances summarized compared. Assessment balance economic feasibility different integrated options reported previous studies also Finally, challenges perspectives advancing toward concluded.
