The banana weevil (Cosmopolites sordidus) is a significant pest that reduces yields and can result in plant mortality. (2R,5S)-theaspirane, kairomone from senesced leaves, one of the natural volatiles, aiding attraction. A rapid cost-effective synthesis (2R,5S)-theaspirane was developed utilizing microwave-assisted conditions principles green chemistry. process comprised five steps, beginning with reduction dihydro-β-ionone, followed by lipase-mediated kinetic resolution to attain high enantiomeric excess. Microwave-assisted heating significantly reduced reaction times. Optimized cyclization minimum quantities selenium dioxide oxidation employed. final diastereomers were separated chromatography, yielding compounds which exceeded 99% purity.

Abstract A novel metal‐ and oxidant‐free electrooxidative selenylamination of o ‐aminophenacetylenes with diselenides for achieving 3‐selenylindoles has been developed moderate to excellent yield. The reaction proceeded smoothly a broad substrate scope highly functional group tolerance. synthetic practicality this innovative approach was demonstrated by its easy scalability. Moreover, mechanistic studies revealed that an in‐situ generated selenium cation might be the key intermediate electrochemical selenocyclization process.
