As one of the most serious toxic contaminants, heavy metal ions have severely threatened living environment and biological system. Accurate rapid detection is indispensable, urging necessity fabricating sensors with low cost, easy-to-operate, high sensitivity. Numerous recent innovations in material science reenergized this field led to emergence well-defined nano-sensors diverse structures functions. Specifically, noble nanoparticles, porous nanomaterials, semiconductors been applied sensor construction, coupled analytical tools such as mass spectrometry, colorimetry, electrochemistry, surface-enhanced Raman scattering, fluorescence. This review overviews latest nanomaterials-based focuses on their performances, applications, challenges.
