Abstract Organic solar cells (OSCs), benefiting from their significant advantages, such as light weight, flexibility, low cost, and large area manufacturing adaptability, are considered promising clean energy technologies. Currently, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of state‐of‐the‐art OSCs has reached over 18% through materials device engineering. Specifically, cathode engineering with interlayer (CIMs) is an important strategy to improve PCEs stability OSCs. Among various CIMs reported in literature, perylene diimides (PDIs) more appropriate for working interlayers owing distinct advantages suitable levels, high electron affinity, mobility, facile modification. In this review, mechanism concisely summarized, recent research progress on PDI derivatives systematically reviewed. Finally, prospects suggestions provided development PDI‐based practical applications.

Abstract Recently, luminescent organic crystals have been widely studied as new optoelectronic materials. However, corrosion and dissolution of by solvents always a great challenge for the application in various fields. In this work, we propose general method fabricating solvent‐resistant coating to prevent from being corroded or dissolved solvents. The coatings involved layer‐by‐layer assembly poly(diallyldimethylammonium) (PDDA) poly(styrenesulfonate) (PSS) onto crystals, followed immersing coated into polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) aqueous solutions 2 minutes. can remain intact over 24 h common without damaged even insoluble dichloromethane 5 days. Moreover, thin transparent little effect on optical properties which still excellent waveguide performance with coatings.

We investigate the effect of adding an N-annulated perylene diimide dye with a pyrrolic NH functional group (PDIN-H) onto electron extraction layer (EEL) in bilayer configuration (ZnO/PDIN-H) on photostability inverted organic solar cells (OSCs). To do so, we insert thin PDIN-H between ZnO and bulk heterojunction (BHJ) active layer. Results show that under prolonged ultraviolet (UV) irradiation, ZnO/PDIN-H EEL exhibit substantially higher compared to reference only ZnO, leading respective T80 values ≳780 h versus ∼124 h, where is time before power conversion efficiency (PCE) decreases 80% its initial value. The PCE arises primarily from more stable open-circuit voltage (Voc) fill factor (FF) UV stress. In this work, we report the formation of perylene diimide films, from green solvents, for use as electron transporting layers, when combined with ZnO, in inverted-type organic photovoltaics. A modified N-annulated PDI was functionalized a tert-butyloxycarbonyl protecting group to solubilize material, enabling solution processing solvents. Post-deposition treatment films via thermal annealing cleaves yielding known PDIN-H rendering solvent-resistant. The were characterized by optical absorption spectroscopy, contact angle measurements, and atomic force microscopy.
