Nevertheless,

has

plagued

Carbamate
is
an
emerging
class
of
a
polymer
backbone
for
constructing
sequence-defined,
abiotic
polymers.
It

that
new
functional
materials

sequence.

amino
acids
have
been
actively
studied
as
building
blocks
protein
folding
and
peptide
self-assembly,

widely

we
combined
infrared
(IR),
vibrational
circular
dichroism
(VCD),
nuclear
magnetic
resonance
(NMR)
spectroscopy
with
density
theory
(DFT)
calculations
to
understand
conformation
carbamate
monomer
units
in
nonpolar,
aprotic
environment
(chloroform).
Compared
acid
blocks,
are
more
rigid,
presumably
due
extended
delocalization
π-electrons
on
backbones.
Cis
configurations
amide
bond
energetically
stable
carbamates,
whereas
peptides
often
assume
trans
at
low
energies.
