Nickel (Ni) contamination poses a serious environmental concern, particularly in developing countries: where, anthropogenic activities significantly contributes to Ni accumulations soils and waters. The of agricultural with Ni, increases risks its entry terrestrial ecosystems food production systems posing threat both security safety. We examined the existing published articles regarding origin, source, accumulation, transport soil environments. Particularly, we reviewed bioavailability toxic effects invertebrates microbes, as well impact on soil-plant interactions including seed germination, nutrient uptake, photosynthesis, oxidative stress, antioxidant enzyme activity, biomass production. Moreover, it underscores potential health hazards associated consuming crops cultivated Ni-contaminated elucidates pathways through which enters chain. literature suggests that chronic exposure may have long-term implications for supply chain public. Therefore, an aggressive effort is required interdisciplinary collaboration assessing mitigating ecological contamination. It also argues these measures are necessary light increasing level pollution impacts public environment.

Comprising substrates, elements solder, DPCBs showcase a heterogeneous structure with metal (30.0–50.0%) non-metal (50.0–70.0%) fractions. Notably abundant precious metals such as Au, Ag, Pd, offer compelling avenue recycling initiatives. inclusion heavy flame retardants adds complexity, necessitating environmentally sound methods. Ongoing research on smart disassembly, utilising 3D image recognition technology, underscores importance accurate identification positioning (ECs). targeted approach centred valuable components, highlights its significance, albeit challenges costs capacity limitations. In mechanical techniques grinding heat application are employed extract ECs, innovations addressing gas emissions damage induced by overheating. Chemical disassembly methods, encompassing epoxy resin delamination tin removal, present promising recovery options, whilst integration chemical electrochemical processes shows potential. Efficient sorting, both manual automated is post-disassembly, sorting technologies augmenting accuracy categorisation ECs. addition, explorations into NH 3 /NH 4 + solutions selective underscore stress necessity meticulous process optimisation sustainable PCB recycling. The contamination of soil and water with high levels heavy metals (HMs) has emerged as a significant obstacle to agricultural productivity overall crop quality. Certain HMs, although serving essential micronutrients, are required in smaller quantities for plant growth. However, when present higher concentrations, they become very toxic. Several studies have shown that balance out the harmful effects complex systems needed at molecular, physiological, biochemical, cellular, tissue, whole levels. This could lead more crops being grown. Our review focused on HMs' resources, occurrences, implications. will also look how plants react HMs affect seed performance well benefits provide plants. Furthermore, examines transport genes their metabolic responses HMs. We examined obstacles potential management strategies.

Wildfires at the wildland–urban interface (WUI) are increasing in frequency and intensity, driven by climate change anthropogenic ignitions. Few studies have characterized variability metal content ash generated from burned structures order to determine potential risk human environmental health. Using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), we analyzed leachable trace concentration soils Marshall Fire, a WUI fire that destroyed over 1000 Boulder County, Colorado. Acid digestion revealed derived contained 22 times more Cu 3 Pb on average than surrounding mg/kg basis. Ash liberated 12 Ni (mg/kg) twice as much Cr water leach. By comparing amount of acid-extractable metals released simulated epithelial lung fluid (SELF), estimated their for mobility bioaccessibility. The SELF leach showed were bioaccessible (mg metal/mg metal) soils. These results suggest structure is an important source can negatively impact health both humans environment.
