Metal-organic cages (MOCs) are popular host architectures assembled from ligands and metal ions/nodes. Assembling structurally complex, low-symmetry MOCs with anisotropic cavities can be limited by the formation of statistical isomer libraries. We set out to investigate use primary coordination-sphere engineering (CSE) bias selectivity within homo- heteroleptic Pd

Metal-organic self-assembly with flexible moieties is a budding field of research due to the possibility formation unique architectures. Tetrazole, characterised by four nitrogen atoms in five-member ring, exhibits immense potential as component. Tetrazole offers coordination sites for binding metal centre nine distinct modes, leading various assemblies. This review highlights different polymeric and discrete tetrazole-based assemblies their functions. The meticulous manipulation stoichiometry, ligands, ions required constructing has also been discussed. applications these architectures separation, catalysis detection have accentuated. latter section consolidates cage composites, highlighting cell imaging photocatalytic applications.

Abstract Two new structural motifs within the class of heteroleptic Pd n A B assemblies, namely syn‐cis‐ 3 bowls and bowl‐ ( syn ) or saddle‐ anti shaped cis ‐Pd 4 rings are introduced. All ten examples share a common longer fluorenone‐based bis‐monodentate ligand, equipped with meta ‐pyridine donor groups. The ring size (3‐ vs. 4‐membered) conformational preference (bowl saddle) controlled by choice shorter ligand. These carry para donors, different aromatic backbones (benzene, thiophene selenophene) either no small bulky endohedral substituents, serving to control nuclearity through effects (ligand angle, charge distribution backbone bulk). Moreover, luminescence fluorenone ligand is conserved in formed architectures. Emission intensity as well host–guest properties vary depending on inward‐pointing functions. assemblies shown bind chiral guest BINOL bis‐sulfonate which imparts its chirality entire complex. This results guest‐induced circular dichroism (CD) circularly polarized (CPL) dissymmetry factor g lum up 10 −3 .

We set out to investigate use primary coordination‐sphere engineering (CSE) bias selectivity within homo‐ heteroleptic Pd n L 2 cages. Unexpected differences in selectivities between alternative donor groups led us recognise significant impact second coordination sphere on stabilities. From this, molecular‐level insight into origins cis trans diastereoisomers was gained, highlighting importance both host–guest host‐solvent interactions, addition ligand design. This detailed understanding allows precision MOC assemblies without wholesale redesign framework, fundamentally provides a theoretical scaffold for development stimuli‐responsive, shape‐shifting MOCs.
